On January 24, 2023, DICT Bataan headed by Mr. Gerald Calamaan visited the PITO Office to discuss the Philippine National Public Key Infrastructure (PNPKI). The purpose of this talk was to explain PNPKI, an infrastructure that uses digital certificates to secure files sent over a network, for which to ensure secure, efficient communication between individuals and agencies.

The discussion went through how a public key/electronic signature works and how to integrate it into systems such as encryption, digital signing, and validation of documents. With this information, the members then gave feedback as to the possible uses of the infrastructure for the department’s standard processes and how it could make its activities a faster and more efficient by reducing manual procedures especially in preparation and dissemination of letters, certifications and other office documents. At the end of the seminar, each PITO member who wished to avail a digital certificate was registered by the authority so that they may use the PNPKI for their duties.
